The Heillig Manoeuvre is a quartet founded by bassist Henry Heillig in 1998 with the intention of performing and recording Heillig’s original jazz compositions, which he describes as “more songbook than doctoral thesis”. Ladybug Waltz, which is the lead track from the Heillig Manoeuvre’s second CD, inmotion, has been in constant rotation at Jazz.FM since it’s release in 2004.

The musicians of the Heillig Manoeuvre are:

Bassist Henry Heillig is best know for his 30+ year stint as musical director of Manteca. Heillig freelances in Toronto, works extensively with harmonica giant Carlos del Junco, and produces both recording projects and live events.

Pianist Stacie McGregor has been making people pay attention to her in the past few years. She has been featured in the band led by bassist Brandi Disterheft, which has shared the stage with the likes of Dave Brubeck and Herbie Hancock, and she is also a member of Collage, the hard-driving bebop group led by drummer Archie Alleyne.

Saxophonist Alison Young is only a few years removed from her studies at U of T, but her playing shows her to have a very old soul. Alison has been featured in the Red Hot Ramblers Tara Hazelton’s swing band, and Big Rude Jake’s ensemble, with which she has toured in Europe several times.
