Andrew Liorti has been playing the piano since he was 8 years old and started playing professionally at the age of 15. Since then he has developed his craft on the piano, clarinet, and saxophone.
Deeply interested in the arts and sciences, he has explored and studied both of these fields extensively here in Guelph. During this time, Andrew has studied under two other regular performers at Manhattans- Andy Klaehn and John Zadro. All the while, Andrew he has been a contributing member of local groups such as Thunderbird, Manatee, and VERSA.
Although he maintains a deep appreciation for classical and jazz music historically, he currently draws most of his inspiration from boundary-pushing modern artists such as The Bad Plus, Yom, Robert Glasper, Vijay Iyer, Donny McCaslin, Chris Potter’s Underground, and Kamasi Washington. This is evident in his improvisational style and compositions, choice of melodic and rhythmic patterns, and reframing of pop/rock tunes.
