The JT Trio is determined to reintroduce jazz to the modern era. With a large repertoire of music spanning throughout the 20th century, this trio will wine you and dine you with vibrant, funk tunes from the 60s, followed by mellow jazz and latin pieces that speak to the soul. The JT trio has been invited back for numerous performances at the Bullring, UoG’s coffee pub, which is notorious for its country music. Audiences are always blown away by the group’s unique sound, and appreciate the music as they relax and enjoy their meals. The JT Trio – Anthony Nguyen (Tenor Saxophone), Jonathan Chung (Piano), Mark Spagnolo (Bass) – is composed of first-year Bio-medical and computer science students at the University of Guelph. Anthony Nguyen from St. Catherines is an experienced tenor saxophonist and has performed in many venues in Hamilton, Toronto, and most notably Roy Thomson Hall. Jonathan Chung is a 13-year classically trained pianist from Toronto, who moved on to jazz citing “blandness” of classical pieces. Mark Spagnolo is a talented electric AND upright bass player who can really funk hard. We have grown so much together and we are excited to play for you!
