December 8 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm
Soulful, sultry and a little sassy, Toronto jazz vocalist SIMONE MORRIS officially launched her long-awaited, all-original, debut album “Settling Up” November 2, 2018 which hit #1 on the iTunes Canada Jazz Charts upon its release, and has received feature interviews, attention and airplay from CBC Radio, campus & community radio. When Simone and her daughter were in a car accident at the end of 2016, the experience awakened in her a fierce determination to get on with life in meaningful ways. Using her own life experiences to connect with audiences in a personal way, she engages in an intimate conversation that reveals her take on life and love.
“Gorgeous” ~ Errol Nazareth, Host of CBC Radio’s Big City, Small World
Simone exudes a rare blend of soul and subtlety. She’s a natural storyteller who captures the essence of jazz classics, while artfully luring audiences into her craftily-spun musical stories. For many years she has been known on the jazz scene for soulful takes on life and love, drawing on the influence of some of her favourite women in jazz +(Billie Holliday, Sarah Vaughan, Anita O’Day, Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald) alongside lasting impressions on her by early singer-idols (Ray Charles, Etta James, Aretha Franklin, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Paul Simon, Van Morrison, Sting). She revels in creating a musical ‘home’ for the unexpected – in sound, tone, colour, texture. A true original, Simone leaves her audiences transfixed and transformed.
Looking forward to her debut performance at Manhattans, Simone will be joined by her long-time guitarist and co-writer, Mike Freedman.
