BRAD HALLS, born and raised in Fergus, lives an active “double life” as a lawyer, pianist, singer, actor and composer.
He has been the pianist or musical director for many productions including “Cabaret”, “Gypsy”, “Camelot”, “The Music Man”, “Fiddler on the Roof”, “The King and I”, “Mame”, “Oklahoma!” and “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown!” As a singer, Mr. Halls has recently been invited to sing with the excellent Guelph Chamber Choir’s 2012-2013 season. Since 1985, Brad Halls has been the producer and principal performer in a series of concerts presented at Cobourg’s historic Victoria Hall entitled “WORDS AND MUSIC.”
For many years, Brad Halls combined his talents as a composer with the lyric writing abilities of his friend and collaborator Paul Caldwell. Their three albums of children’s music, “New Kids on the Block”, “Second Childhood”, and “Awesome! (…and then some!)” were among the most successful children’s recordings in Canada. The pair were also the chief writers and performers for their television series for children ‟The Corner Store”, for which the two won CanPro Awards for excellence in independent Canadian television production. The many original songs written by Halls and Caldwell have been performed and recorded by other children’s performers, most notably by Fred Penner and Sharon, Lois and Bram.
As an arranger, Mr. Halls’ arrangements have been performed and recorded by the award winning “La Jeunesse Girls Choir”, and by choral groups including “The Oriana Singers” and “The Peterborough Singers” and orchestral groups such as the Concert Band of Cobourg. He has presented his musical revue “The Songs of World War II” with his own choral arrangements with choirs in various Ontario locations.
For several years, Mr. Halls has been a member and officer of the Board of Directors of several musical and theatrical organizations, including Northumberland Players, the La Jeunesse Girls Choir, the La Jeunesse Youth Orchestra and the Port Hope “All Canadian” Jazz Festival.
